The Lie is Over!

It must be disconcerting when one comes to the realization that he or she has been living a lie.

The above statement has so much resounding truth that one needs to really introspect the validity of the protestation, to determine where did he or she went wrong.

I alluded to it in previous articles, “What Did You Do”, and “What Are You Hiding?”

I’ll let you in on how this conversation started. . .

“There is something that I don’t understand!”

“What is that?”

“We started our journey at the same time,” he said, eyeing me quizzically.

“What of it?”

“You either took or did something!”

“What do you mean by that?”

“I have been working out as long as you, yet we look vastly different. In fact, it looks as if I made no change at all.”

“What did you expect?”

“Excuse me?”

“True, you may have started your fitness journey at the same time. Even if you did come to the gym as often as me, by your own admission, no change in your physique, can only indicate that you do not know how to use it.”

“I don’t know how to use gym?”

“Apparently not,” I said, trying to hide my annoyance.

“What do you mean that!”

“An inordinate amount of people go to the gym, but few really know how to utilize it.”

I normally use tact when having difficult conversations, but his accusations about me using foreign substances to build my physique were insulting. If he had merely left it as my commitment to continuity was the difference in our physical appearance, the conversation would have ceased.

His disparaging remarks intimating that my transformation was not due to hard work, but the ingestion of unknown and illegal substances felt like a slap in the face.

The only truth in the entire conversation was we had started our journey together, but his lack of preparation and discipline, coupled with his unwillingness to be a student of bodybuilding, led us down different paths.

A decade later, evident by his lack of success, coupled with my complete transformation, we stood looking at each other’s physique in the gym mirror, when the inescapable lie revealed itself . . .
